A 26-year-old motorcyclist, identified as Hunter Southard of Henrico, was killed Saturday night following a collision involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle in Henrico County, according to police.
Officers with the Henrico Police Division responded at approximately 9:35 p.m. to the intersection of N. Airport Drive and Airport Place after reports of a crash involving a motorcycle and a Hyundai Genesis. When officers arrived, they found Southard lying in the roadway with severe traumatic injuries.
Despite emergency response efforts, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to a preliminary investigation, Southard was traveling northbound on N. Airport Drive when his motorcycle collided with a Hyundai Genesis traveling southbound and attempting to make a left turn onto Airport Place.
Police said the driver of the Hyundai remained at the scene and fully cooperated with investigators. At this time, no charges have been announced in connection with the incident.
Investigators continue to determine the exact circumstances that led to the collision. Authorities stated that speed and alcohol are not currently believed to have been factors on the part of the Hyundai driver, though the investigation remains ongoing.
