Family members, friends, and loved ones are mourning the tragic loss of Jamar Mishoe, 36, of Concord, and Alejandro Gutierrez, 33, of Vale, who were both killed in a devastating highway collision in Lincoln County early Sunday morning.
According to authorities, the fatal crash occurred shortly after midnight on N.C. 16 near Sifford Road. Investigators reported that the collision involved a pickup truck that was allegedly traveling in the wrong direction before striking another vehicle head-on.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene following reports of the crash, but despite their efforts, both drivers sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.
The severity of the collision led officials to close N.C. 16 for several hours as investigators worked to examine the scene, gather evidence, and determine the circumstances surrounding the crash. Crews remained on-site throughout the night clearing debris and documenting the incident.
Preliminary findings suggest that impairment may have been a contributing factor in the collision. However, authorities emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing and no final determination has been made.
The deaths of Mishoe and Gutierrez have left their families and communities in deep grief as loved ones struggle to come to terms with the sudden and heartbreaking loss. Many are now reflecting on their lives and offering support to those affected by the tragedy.
Officials say additional details will be released as the investigation continues.
