Family members, friends, and members of the Greensboro community are mourning the heartbreaking loss of 21-year-old Anastasia Estrella Cooper, who died on June 19, 2026, days after being critically injured in a crash involving a moped and an SUV.
According to the Greensboro Police Department, the crash occurred shortly before 3 a.m. on June 14 along Spring Garden Street near Eula Street. Investigators reported that Makayla Kaitlynn Ouboun Theng of Graham was driving a Lexus SUV westbound ahead of a man and woman traveling on a moped in the same direction.
Authorities said the SUV made a U-turn directly in front of the moped, resulting in a collision. Both moped riders were seriously injured and transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment. Despite medical efforts, Cooper later succumbed to her injuries on June 19.
Following the initial investigation, Theng was arrested and charged with driving while impaired and failing to yield resulting in serious injury. After Cooper’s death, additional charges were filed, including felony death by vehicle, felony serious injury by vehicle, and unsafe tires. Officials confirmed she is being held without bond.
The crash remains under active investigation as detectives continue to review the events leading up to the collision.
