Family, friends, and members of the West Portsmouth community are mourning the tragic loss of Jeffrey A. Hammonds, 50, who was killed in a devastating head-on motorcycle crash on Sunday morning in Scioto County.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 9:35 a.m. on Dry Run Road, northwest of State Route 73 in Washington Township. Investigators reported that Hammonds was traveling northwest on his motorcycle when an oncoming vehicle crossed the center line and struck him head-on in a violent collision.
Emergency responders from multiple agencies, including the Washington Township Fire Department, Portsmouth Emergency Ambulance Service, Scioto County Coroner’s Office, and Central Wrecker Service, arrived quickly at the scene and attempted lifesaving measures. Despite their efforts, Hammonds was pronounced dead due to the severity of his injuries. The driver of the other vehicle survived and was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
